How did the students change when they learned about DT?
It has been five years since I started taking Diversional Therapy classes at university. It is the Department of
Psychology at Hiroshima International University. Two years ago, DT classes started in the Occupational Therapy
Department of Hokkaido Bunkyo University as well. DT classes are surprisingly very popular with students, though
not yet a professional Diversional Therapy education in Japan. In this year, 77 in 90 third-year students in the
Department of Psychology chose DT classes.
Through DT, many students will learn the fundamental idea of Leisure for the first time and begin to think seriously
about Human Rights in Life and Leisure. In the occupational therapy department, many students find DT rewarding
as Occupational Therapist.
Particularly interesting reactions are feedbacks on the question, “What kind of life do you want when you would be
with dementia?”
What kind of image do young people have of dementia? How did they change when they learned about DT? I would
like to show you it in this presentation.
